Dualboot Ubuntu or Linux Mint with Windows 8 UEFI

With New Windows 8 UEFI System you won't be easily dualboot linux with Windows 8.Windows 8 UEFI has secureboot that prevents  other operating systems to boot. As far as my experience with GRUB and GRUB 2 they are not able to detect windows bootloader .So you may not be able to boot into Windows 8 after Installing Linux Mint 15 or Ubuntu 13.04.
Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS and Ubuntu 13.04 have support for UEFI.Linux Mint 15 which is derivative of Ubuntu 13.04 have this functionality too.
So now solve this problem follow the steps.
Ubuntu 12.04.2/Ubuntu 13.04 Live CD ISO
Linux Mint 15 ISO

Step 1
Install Ubuntu 13.04/Ubuntu 12.04.2 or Linux Mint 15 using the           "Something Else" Partition Scheme with following Partitions
/boot partition  500 MB(approx.)
swap  partition 4GB (if RAM greater than 4Gb else 2GB)
/ partition  15GB or more(this space where you files and operating system files will be stored)
If you can create separate /home partition if you want.
Step 2
After Installing Ubuntu or Linux Mint alongside Windows 8 you may not be able to boot into Windows 8.

  1. hi...Im student from Informatics engineering nice article,
    thanks for sharing :)

  2. I have installed Linux Mint 15 after installing windows 8. It is able to boot with Wndows but not with Linux.

    1. If you are unable to view Grub menu, your machine boots right into Windows 8 then it seems to be problem of UEFi,I would recommend you to wait for Linux Mint 16 or use Ubuntu 13.10 as this issue is resolved in that version..

    2. Linux Mint 16 here, still only boot into windows. I tried just about everything

    3. Same here. Having problems dual-booting Mint 16 with Windows 8.1 and I've tried about everything I can think of / read about online.

    4. use ubuntu 13.10 linux mint 16 has issues with kernel update

  3. Guys check in your bios whether the entry for mint is created

  4. Same to me, still working on it, i can boot back to ubuntu 13.10 through the liveusb , choose install ubuntu and after getting into the ubuntu environment, just quit the install, you will be back to the ubuntu installed before, how inconvenience .

  5. Installed Linux Mint 16 and Now I'm Unable to boot into Mint...
