Many of us download files over the internet using Download Managers or Torrent Clients .Sometimes files get downloaded incorrectly or get corrupted.MD5sums and SHA checksums help us verify file integrity. Often Linux Distributions ISO files that are available for download provide MD5 and SHA checksums to verify download.

In Linux system you can calculate these checksum using commands

md5sum <filepath>

sha1sum <filepath>

sha256sum <filepath>

sha512sum <filepath>

In Windows there are utilities available to calculate MD5, SHA1, SHA256 and SHA512 checksums.
